San Diego Running Places


Torrey Pines State Park. 1 mile north of Genessee on North Torrey Pines Road. Trails on the cliffs offer a spectacular view of the ocean






Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. Can be reached from Sorrento Valley Blvd (west end) or Black Mountain Rd (east end). The main trail is about 6 miles long with some rolling hills. There is an extensive network of trails leading up to the mesa on the north side.






Miramar Lake. 1/2 mile southeast of I-15 and Mira Mesa Blvd on Scripps Lake Drive. A paved flat 5-mile loop around the lake. Lots of water and facilities. Very popular on weekends.






La Jolla Cove/Windansea. Take Coast Blvd south and follow the coast to Windansea Beach (2.5 miles). Continue south on Neptune St. and Chelsea St. to the north end of Pacific Beach Boardwalk near Law St. (5 miles). Scenic ocean views most of the way.






Mission Beach. Corner of Pacific Beach Drive and Mission Blvd. Lots of beach action. Head south on the boardwalk to the turnaround (approx.4 miles). Then take Bayside Walk on the east side of Mission Blvd to return to Pacific Beach Drive. Flat concrete paths all the way.






Mission Bay Park. Just south of Clairemont Drive on East Mission Bay Drive. The bathroom in the parking lot contains dozens of running brochures and entry forms. Flat running paths to the north and south from this point. Go south past the Hilton Hotel to the entrance to Fiesta Island (2 miles) and take in a 3-mile loop of the island






Kate Sessions Park. Half-mile north of Beryl St. on Lamont. If you feel like doing some hillwork on grass, this is the place. Great views of Mission Bay.






Mission Trails Park. Mission Gorge Rd 1/4 mile east of Jackson Drive. The main route, Fr. Junipero Serra Trail, follows the San Diego River. There is also an extensive network of hilly trails in the area






Lake Murray. From I-8 take Lake Murray Blvd. north for 1 mile to the Lake Entrance. Bike path goes part way around the lake.






Balboa Stadium Track. Park Blvd. 1/4 mile north of A St. Adjacent to San Diego City College downtown. SDTC track workouts are held here on Tuesday and Thursday evenings






Glorietta Bay Park, Coronado. Opposite the hotel Del Coronado at the north end of Silver Strand Blvd. The bike path heads south along Silver Strand Blvd for approx. 8 miles to Imperial Beach.






Rohr Park, Bonita. From the 805 Freeway go 3 miles east on Sweetwater Rd. Running paths adjacent to the golf course.
