SDTC MID-WEEK WORKOUTS

  Visitors - You are welcome to join us for the Metro and/or North County workouts while you are in town.

  Locals - You are welcome to come to one mid-week workout to check us out, then you are expected to join the SDTC if you plan on attending further workouts.


Metro Area, Tuesday 5:30 pm    

    Summer  --  6th & Quince in Balboa Park

     Meet here: Balboa Park, the big grass area south of Quince,
     east of 6th Ave and west of Balboa Drive.

     Free Parking: Along 6th Ave and parking lots on Balboa Drive.
     (Balboa Drive is a one-way road; can drive only southbound.)

   CAUTION: If you are female, DO NOT run alone, by yourself, on the bridle trail in Balboa Park (along Highway 163). Two-legged predators inhabit that area .... an attempted rape happened there several weeks ago (mid-May) at 4:30 in the afternoon. (Information provided by the SDTC Board of Directors.)


North County Area, Tuesday 5:30 pm

    Discovery Lake at Lakeview Park, San Marcos

     Individual warm up starts at 5:30 pm, and actual group workout
     starts at 6:00 pm.

     Meet here: Discovery Lake at Lakeview Park (Lakeview Park is
     located at the corner of Foxhall and Buckhorn, San Marcos). 
 
     Free Parking:  There is plenty of street parking right by the 
     park entrance.

COACHING
Free coaching is available to SDTC members year-round.  The coaches supervise the mid-week evening group workouts.

About the Coaches
Paul Greer is an assistant professor of Health and Exercise Science at San Diego City College and has a Master's degree in Physical Education and 21 years coaching experience. A sub-4 minute miler, he starred on the San Diego State University track team and holds the school record there at 1500 meters. Paul competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials and has a personal best time in the 1500 meters at 3:39.05. 

Paul's workouts cater to runners of all ages and abilities and he provides training schedules to his athletes on an individual basis. He is also the Director for the very successful Rockin N Runnin marathon training program every year. 

Track workouts are geared toward popular local races such as the Carlsbad 5000, The Union Tribune 8K and the AFC Half Marathon. Paul's structured workouts ensure that runners train in groups of equal ability to maximize their athletic potential.

David Kloz is a local distance running enthusiast with over 10 years coaching experience.  He was a top rated junior distance runner in the Czech Republic as a teenager and earned All-American honors at Cal State San Marcos while training under the tutelage of the legendary Steve Scott.  He holds personal bests of 2:29 in the marathon and 1:06 in the half-marathon, but is best known for consistently being amongst the top runners in local races.  His passion for running led him to found the locally competitive BSK/Running Center team with the hope of bringing new vitality to the running and racing community.

David’s workouts accommodate runners of all levels and abilities and he strives to provide training schedules to his athletes on an individual basis with the goal of reaching athletic longevity and fostering a love and passion for the sport of running. 

David’s workouts are geared toward popular races from a mile to a marathon.  David follows Paul Greer’s ideology of structured workouts to ensure that runners train in groups of equal ability to maximize their athletic potential while enjoying the “experience” and the “gift” of running.

Monday Night Run - Encinitas - 6pm

Monday Night Run meets at the Encinitas Movin Shoes store at 6PM and runs from there up and back along the coast and beach about 5-6 miles.

Wednesday Night Run - Pacific Beach - 6pm

Wednesday Night Run meets at the Pacific Beach Movin Shoes store at 6PM and runs about 5 miles out and back through parks and streets in the area (San Diego's oldest continuous weekly run - 22 years without missing a Wednesday night).

SDTC COMPETITIVE TEAMS
For the faster and more competitive athletes, the SDTC has men's and women's track teams which compete in local road races, the fall Cross-Country series, various relay events as well as national cross-country, road and track competitions.  For details, please call one of the following:
